WHEN

Find Your Park Plein Air takes place throughout a nine-day period during 2016 National Park Week from April 16 to 24, 2016. Artists can participate from sunrise to sunset at the Castillo de San Marcos and the beach side of Fort Matanzas. Since the visitor center, trails and grounds of Fort Matanzas are gated, hours for participating at those locations are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The artwork submitted to be part of the show will be juried on April 24, 2016, at 10 a.m. at the St. Augustine Art Association {22 Marine Street}. Artwork to be judged can be delivered to the art association on April 23, 2016, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and April 24, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The show will be on display from June 9 to Aug. 31, 2016, at the Lightner Museum.

About Find Your Park Plein Air

WHO

Artists, regardless of residency, who love parks, history and The Great Outdoors are invited to participate in Find Your Park Plein Air.

WHAT

As part of the 2016 Find Your Park Centennial Celebration, the National Park Service has teamed up with the St. Johns Cultural Council to bring Find Your Park Plein Air to St. Johns County. The event has two components.

The first component of Find Your Park Plein Air is the actual creation of art in plein air, which is a French term meaning “in the open air.” This art form is when an artist creates outside with the subject in view. Therefore, the program offers two places of inspiration and beauty for artists to create masterpieces in the fresh air of historic St. Johns County.

The second component is a juried show that is featured as part of the America's Parks National Exhibition. Artists can submit up to two pieces created during the Find Your Park Plein Air event to be juried for inclusion into the show.

WHERE

Find Your Park Plein Air is offered at the two National Park Service locations in St. Johns County, Castillo de San Marcos National Monument {1 S. Castillo Drive} and Fort Matanzas National Monument {8635 A1A South}.

The juried show will be on display at the historic Lightner Museum {75 King Street} in downtown St. Augustine.
