Q: How many people do you expect to participate in Find Your Park Plein Air?

A: The goal is for 100 people to participate throughout the nine-day event. Registration for the event is available to the first 100 people.

 

Q: What are the hashtags for the event? 

A: The hashtags are #FindYourParkPleinAir2016, #FindYourPark and #NationalParks.

 

Q: What are the awards for the juried show?

A: The awards include one $1,000 award for Best of Show, two $500 awards for best of media, and two $250 awards for honorable mention.

 

Q: How many pieces can I submit to be juried?

A: Artists can submit up to two pieces of art to be juried. Artists will make their own selection as to what two works will be submitted from the works created during Find Your Park Plein Air.

 

Q: What type of artwork is allowed?

A: Two dimensional work is allowed. Photography and 3D are not allowed.  

 

Q: What size artwork can I submit?

A: Artwork should be no larger than 30” by 50”.

 

Q: How should my artwork be prepared for jurying?

A: All juried artwork needs to be framed and hang-able. The submission also needs to include a brief (100 words) artist bio and statement about the work.

 

Q: What dates and location can I submit my artwork to be juried?

A: Artwork can be submitted on April 23, 2016, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on April 24, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the St. Augustine Art Association {22 Marine Street}.

 

Q: If selected to be in the juried show, can my artwork be for sale?

A: Yes, artwork can be for sale.

 

Q: Where should I park?

A: For those creating artwork at the Castillo de San Marcos, parking is available at the Historic Downtown Parking Facility located at 10 W. Castillo Drive in downtown St. Augustine. The cost is $12 per vehicle for all-day parking. It is a .3 mile (5 minute) walk from the parking facility to the Castillo de San Marcos. For those creating artwork at Fort Matanzas, parking is available in the lots on both the east and west side of A1A near the park entrance.

Q: Is there a cost associated to participate?

A: It is free to participate in Find Your Park Plein Air at the National Parks. The cost to submit artwork created during Find Your Park Plein Air into the juried show is $30. Up to two works can be submitted.

 

Q: Do I need to register, even if I don’t want my art to be considered for the juried show?

A: Yes, everyone needs to register to know how many people to expect at the National Parks during the event. Also, registered artists receive many benefits.

Q: What are the benefits of registering?

A: The registration entitles artists to a welcome packet with credentials; access to a plein air demonstration at the Colonial Quarter by well-known artist/gallery owner, Mary Hubley; access to the America's Parks national exhibition opening reception; and access to Gallery Hospitality Nights.

 

Q: What days and hours can I set up and create artwork at the National Parks?

A: Artists can set up at either park on April 16 through April 24, 2016. Artists can participate from sunrise to sunset at the Castillo de San Marcos and the beach side of Fort Matanzas. Since the visitor center, trails and grounds of Fort Matanzas are gated, hours for participating there are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

 

Q: Where can I set up at the National Parks?

A: A map of each park showing designated artist inspiration locations is available.

 

Q: What are the setup rules at the National Parks?

A: Please note that stakes are not allowed to be used on National Park property. Therefore, tents, umbrellas and other items that use stakes will need to use sandbags instead.

 

Q: Where/when can I pick up my registration packet?

A: Packet pickup is available on Thursday, April 14 and Friday, April 15 at the St. Johns Cultural Council office located at 15 Old Mission Avenue in St. Augustine from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

 

Q: What can I expect during the event?

A: Since the Find Your Park Plein Air event takes place during National Park Week, attendance at the parks is expected to be high. Please be aware that park visitors might approach you to learn more about your artwork and the event.
